This week the drama Charlie Harper drops in theaters. It stars Emilia Jones, who has had a big few years since being the lead in an Academy Award winner. This week’s binge looks at her recent films. Films appear in chronological order.

CODA (2021)
About: This was Jones’ breakout. She stars as a young woman with dreams of singing despite being the only hearing person in a deaf family. It’s a great performance and a Best Picture winner.

Cat People (2023)
About: This odd drama played at the Sundance Film Festival. I was interested because of Jones but it wasn’t totally worth the effort.

Winner (2024)
About: This is the second of two biopics about the former soldier turned traitor. This one features Jones in the title role as Reality Winner and a good cast. It’s probably the better of the two films, but it got largely overshadowed by the one starring Sydney Sweeney.

The Running Man (2025)
About: Here, Jones plays a key role later in the film. I liked her work and I thought she played well off Glenn Powell. But this film didn’t hit as much as it might have.

Tony (2026)
About: This is the Matt Johnson that focused on some early years for Anthony Bourdain. Jones plays a key supporting role and the primary love interest. I liked the film, and I liked her in it.
