The new film Runner starring Alan Ritchison is in theaters this weekend. Since taking the lead in the Prime Video series Reacher, Ritchison has exploded in action films on the big screen. This week’s binge looks at his recent film work. Films appear in chronological order.

Fast X (2023)
About: Like about half of Hollywood, Ritchison made his way into the most recent film in the Fast franchise. It’s about the right kind of arena for him, but he wasn’t a huge part of the film. Maybe he’ll be more involved in the future, but this isn’t a big hit for Ritchison fans.

Ordinary Angels (2024)
About: This one is a faith-based film. The star is arguably Hilary Swank, but Ritchison plays more of an every man and a struggling father. It’s a decent performance and a decent watch that shows a different side of Ritchison.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)
About: Here, Ritchison is part of an ensemble in this action film from Guy Ritchie. I like the story and the production here. This movie is a bit under-rated.

Playdate (2025)
About: This is an action comedy starring Ritchison and Kevin James. He plays kind of a wild man character here in something that’s supposed to be a bit of fun. I didn’t think it totally worked, but it’s an OK streaming watch.

Motor City (2025)
About: This one came out in wider release this year. It’s a nearly dialogue-free action film that puts Ritchison at the center as a man falsely accused of a crime who seeks revenge. It’s a period piece and the kind of story that works well to showcase Ritchison’s talent and ability.

War Machine (2026)
About: A big-scale action film for Netflix. It’s an interesting idea and it feels like a decent fit for Ritchison’s talents. But the script here is under-developed, as is the idea for the film. It should have been better.
