This week we get the film The Brink of War in theaters. Among other things, it features Jared Harris as a Cold War-era Mikhail Gorbachev. This week’s binge looks at a few other of Harris’ film roles. Films appear in chronological order.

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows (2011)
About: This was one of his first top film roles. The sequel to the Sherlock Holmes films from Guy Ritchie featured Harris as the iconic villain Moriarty.

Fringe (2008-2012)
About: This was arguably the role that most introduced Harris to audiences. He played the long-running baddie David Robert Jones. It’s an iconic role and performance.

Lincoln (2012)
About: Here, we have Harris in another historical drama playing an historical figure. In this case it was Union General Ulysses S. Grant.

Chernobyl (2019)
About: Another small screen effort, but this was another iconic starring role for Harris, and another docudrama. This time he played one of the men involved in the infamous nuclear disaster. It’s a phenomenal piece.

A House of Dynamite (2025)
About: This Netflix drama was a potential award contender, hailing from director Kathryn Bigelow. Harris played the Secretary of Defense in the drama and gave an interesting and at times haunting performance.
