I had the opportunity to check out a wide range of films. You can read my thoughts and reviews below. I watched everything from thrillers to comedies and more!

Neglected Review

Neglected follows a father and police detective, Shaw (Josh Duhamel), who comes face-to-face with a dangerous killer, played by Dylan Sprouse. After Shaw’s son is kidnapped and trapped, the killer tells him he will only set him free if Shaw agrees to play his twisted game. What follows is a dangerous, intense journey filled with secrets, mind games, and shocking discoveries that all lead back to Shaw himself.

Neglected is a good film with an interesting story, although it can feel a little complicated and confusing at times. The start is rather slow but it builds up slowly and the pacing gets faster. The film has a strong cast and keeps throwing surprises at you that you don’t expect, which helps keep the suspense going throughout.

Sprouse and Duhamel have great chemistry together, and their performances make the tension between the two characters even stronger. The film is also very tense and gripping early on, and it rarely slows down, keeping the action, mystery, and suspense going right until the end. What adds even more tension to the film is the fact that Shaw’s son could run out of oxygen and die, as there is a strict time limit counting down throughout the story.  I also thought the film touched on important issues and serious themes in a meaningful way. At times, I even felt some sympathy for the killer, as the film helps you understand the reasons behind why he was doing what he did, which makes the character more interesting and complex.

Neglected is in limited release in select cities.

Roommates review

Roommates follows Devon (Sadie Sandler), who is shy and not the most confident  who is moving to a new school. She finds out that a cool confident girl Celeste (Chloe East) is moving to the same school as her and asks her to be her roommate. As things start off well soon gets worse and maybe Devon is realizing her roommate is not what she thought

Roommates was a good but not great film, the first half was rather slow and I wasn’t too keen on it but as the second half starts the whole film changes into something very different to what I thought it would be going in. The plot then started to gain my interest again and I was keen to find out how events would unfold. The performances are a mixed bag and sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. I do wish we got to know more about Celeste’s character motivations from herself just to give the character extra layers. It’s classed as a comedy but I don’t really remember laughing much throughout the film and thought it was more of a teen drama than a teen comedy.

While the first half of Roommates is slow and not engaging the second half is worth the wait and it improved the film’s slow start.

Roommates is out now on Netflix.

Apex review

Apex follows Sasha ( Charlize Theron), who is very adventurous and goes for a long hike. She meets a friendly man who gives her advice on where she could go to get to the location. She takes his advice but soon discovers the man is actually a killer played by (Taron Egerton) and out to hunt her. Will she be able to escape him or will she die

Apex wasn’t a very good film overall. The opening was strong and set up an interesting premise, but as the story progressed it became increasingly dull and poorly executed. About halfway through, I found myself losing interest completely. That said, the performances were good, and the cinematography was one of the film’s strongest aspects — especially the scenes involving water, which were visually impressive and atmospheric. However, the film didn’t do a great job explaining the killer’s motivations or something that happened to him, which made parts of the story feel underdeveloped and confusing.

Overall, Apex had a good concept and some strong visuals, but the weak execution stopped it from being anything more than just an okay film in my opinion.

Apex is out now on Netflix!
