Week 1 of the NFL Season comes to a close tonight in Kansas City. Below I preview the game between the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs, which figures to be a good one. But before we get to the last game of the week, let’s consider other takeaways from Week 1.

Rough week for Los Angeles

The Super Bowl is in Los Angeles this year and both its teams—the Rams and Chargers—were considered to be among the favorites for the playoffs. Both were favored in Week 1, and both fell flat. The Rams, who were supposed to field a super team on offense and defense, failed to show up in Australia. The 49ers routed them 27-7. And now, Myles Garrett is headed to IR. The Chargers, meanwhile, boasted the biggest Week 1 line at home against the Cardinals. Instead, they scored just 14 points, looked lost, and fell to 0-1.

The Bears make a statement

Prior to the season, Ben Johnson said he wanted to set the single season point record in 2026. On Sunday, in Week 1, the team backed up that promise, scoring an NFL record 59 points in a win over the Panthers. If this trend holds, it could be a great season to start your Bears in fantasy!

The Bills make a statement

In what was billed as the game of the week, the Buffalo Bills traveled to Houston to battle the Texans. That’s a place—and a team—that’s been tough for Allen in the past. And both teams came into the game hoping to make a statement and have a strong season that includes a run toward the playoffs. Josh Allen and the Bills got it done, scoring 36 points in a seesaw game to move to 1-0 on the season.

Now, on to the Monday night matchup.

Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs

For the Broncos, Bo Nix is back and healthy. With a new Offensive Coordinator and a new set of weapons, I like Nix to come out and make a statement. He’s a low-end QB1 for me. I also like Jaylen Waddle in his Broncos’ debut. He’s a WR2 for me. I like Courtland Sutton, too. I think he’s the forgotten man and has low-end WR2 upside. In the backfield, J.K. Dobbins is already banged up. That makes me nervous. I prefer RJ Harvey as a flex option.

For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes is a full go. I don’t think he’ll have an incredible game, but I still like him as a QB2. In the passing game, I like Rashee Rice as an WR2 and Travis Kelce as a TE2 with some upside. After this Sunday, it’s a low bar to TE1 for the week. In the backfield, I like Kenneth Walker. He’s an RB2 for me.
