We’re still a week away from Thursday Night Football returning to FOX and Amazon Prime, which means it’s still an NFL Network show. And as was the case last week, it’s an interesting but inauspicious matchup. The winless Jacksonville Jaguars with rookie Trevor Lawrence head to Cincinnati to battle the upstart Bengals. Joe Burrow, returning from a serious knee injury, has been rock solid. The Bengals suffered a Week 2 loss to the Bears that is looking more and more like a miracle by the day. But the Bengals won opening day and laid the wood to the Steelers in Week 3, so those are all promising signs.
The Jaguars, meanwhile, are a poor team lacking an identity. Lawrence has tossed seven interceptions in three games, with at least two per game. The Jaguars haven’t been close and haven’t looked like much of an improvement on the 2020 team that won a single game. There is still a ray of fantasy hope. D.J. Chark caught a touchdown in Week 3 and looks to be picking up steam, while James Robinson looked like the guy who finished as RB10 in 2020 last Sunday. Both are decent starting options in this matchup as the Bengals defense hasn’t been a lock down unit and will be without safety Jessie Bates III tonight.
The Bengals, meanwhile, have been strong on offense. That’s particularly true of rookie Ja’Marr Chase, whose looked every bit like the player taken No. 5 overall in the NFL draft. He has four touchdowns in three games and currently sits as WR11 on the season. The Jaguars’ secondary was struggling before trading their top corner to the Panthers this week. Chase is a great start tonight, as is running back Joe Mixon and Burrow. Tyler Boyd is a decent start at flex, too, with Tee Higgins missing the game again.
It’s not a powerhouse matchup but it might be a fun game for fantasy purposes. And it will likely be another Bengals win as they’re off to a hot start to the season. Now, on to the Week 4 picks.
