If you were like me and loved Apple TV’s Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, you were excited to find out that the streaming platform renewed the series for a second season. The first season was such a dynamic show featuring great performances, writing, and a balance of this mystery that kept you invested. I had the pleasure of sitting down with the star of the series, Tatiana Maslany, to discuss the second season renewal. What that phone call meant for Paula and where she thinks Paula’s at mentally going into the new season.

What is Maxium Pleasure Guaranteed about, and who stars in the series?

Paula Saunders is a divorced fact checker living in Sunnyside, Queens, in a contentious child custody dispute with her ex-husband Karl. Amidst her legal troubles, she pays for the online services of webcam model Trevor and vents to him about her personal life. One night, Trevor is beaten and kidnapped on-camera; soon, Paula is receiving calls for ransom money. Police detectives insist to Paula that this is likely an internet scam, but then Trevor is found dead. Paula is roped into the mystery of Trevor’s death as secrets from her past come to light. The series stars Tatiana Maslany, Jake Johnson, Jessy Hodges and Jon Michael Hill.

Tatiana Maslany on Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 2! What’s Next for Her Character?

Ricky Valero:  We finally got the announcement of the season two renewal. What was your reaction when you found out you were getting to return to Paula’s world?

Tatiana Maslany: I was so excited. I mean, I really, I love this show. I love doing this show. The crew is amazing, and the cast. It’s, it’s very rare that everything kind of turns out the way that it does, you know? That the show also, like, felt like the kind of show that we had made when we were filming it. So, I just am super stoked.

RV:  Obviously the final phone call turns Paula from someone investigating this conspiracy and someone who appears to be caught up in something. Where do you think we find her emotionally when we get into Maximium Pleasure Guaranteed Season two?

Maslany:  I mean, there’s a threat looming now. A different threat and something coming from somewhere she doesn’t know, and it seems bigger than maybe she’s even aware of. So she’s probably not in the best head space.

RV: One of the most fascinating things, and we’ve seen this in previous work, is that you do such a good job of balancing these multi-faceted genres, right? You have the comedy and complex characters; how do you find yourself fitting into that bubble to bring it together?

Maslany: It really depends on the writing. You can like sandwich sort of ideas about genre or like tropes, and I enjoy actually playing with those tropes, but I always want to kind of flip ’em on their head. And I feel like a lot of what I’m interested in creating characters is flipping a trope or like playing within the boundaries of a trope but sort of pushing at the edges of it.

I think with this show, you know, in moments, and I think it’s all in the writing, moments that are like scary or disturbing will always have like a little kind of humor to them. Or like moments that are quite devastating similarly will have something that kind of pulls them out of just being that.
