Golden Globes Nomination Reaction

The Golden Globes were announced this morning, and we had some surprises and had some predictable nature of the film. I had the pleasure of hosting a live reaction show with Amanda from CandidxCinema.com.

You can check that out below, and I also am sharing my thoughts on some of the nominations below.

The nominations I am happy with.

Promising Young Woman Love

Promising Young Woman having a HUGE showing is a delight to me as it is one of last year’s best films. Many questions were surrounding whether or not it would garner the nominations in the Drama category. Still, Emerald Fennell locked in Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Picture, with Carey Mulligan hitting in the Best Actress. It was a great overall showing for the film.

The Father

The Father, a film that I wish more people would have seen by now. The film is a masterclass acting, directing and the Globes awarded it with Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Supporting Actor. All nominations are well deserved, and I can’t wait for this film to come out to the masses.

A few quick hits I am happy with

Supporting Actors, Leslie Odom Jr. for his portrayal in of Sam Cooke in One Night in Miami and Daniel Kaluuya for his role as Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah. I was very pleased with both of these nominations.

Rosamund Pike nomination for I Care a Lot is fantastic (more so cause I love her) and I can’t wait to see the film.

Best Song, Speak Now written by Sam Ashworth and Leslie Odom Jr. – They are coming for that Oscar.

Reznor and Ross, the double nominees killed it with their fantastic scores in Mank and Soul. I happy for these guys!

The nominations that swung and missed

Paul Raci Snub. While not a surprise, I am still upset that they didn’t give him any love for his amazing performance in this film. More so, giving Jared Leto a nomination over him.

No The King of Staten Island love. The Comedy category was rather weak and we throw in James Corden for The Prom instead of Pete Davidson? An Absolute Joke.

Gary Oldman? Really? I would have preferred to see Delroy Lindo for the Da 5 Bloods here instead.

Minari isn’t a Foreign Film and on top of that the snub of Youn Yuh-jung is a travesty.

What were you thoughts of the award nominations?
