This week a new take on Sense and Sensibility makes its way to theaters. This new version is led by Daisy Edgar-Jones. This week’s binge focuses on her previous films. Films appear in chronological order.
Fresh (2022)
About: Edgar-Jones had her breakout in Normal People for Hulu. This was her big film follow up, a horror film with Sebastian Stan that debuted at Sundance and then was purchased by Hulu. It’s fun and edgy, certainly showing a bit of her range.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2023)
About: A big literary adaptation, Edgar-Jones is the lead in this story about a girl set in the south. It featured a notable soundtrack and some fun story elements, but it didn’t quite work. It’s a good performance from Edgar-Jones.
Twisters (2024)
About: A big summer blockbuster, Edgar-Jones is the lead of this resurrected IP. It takes a different approach from the original, but it’s still a lot of fun. She plays well of Glen Powell, and I could see it leading to another installment at some point.
On Swift Horses (2024)
About: This was more of a little-seen period drama. It had some potential, and certainly had some fans, but it’s a bit of a downer in terms of a story. It casts Edgar-Jones back in a tortured romantic lead, which should serve her well for her new film, too.
