This week is Halloween. It’s a time when we often turn to spooky entertainment, some of which might include witches! This week’s binge celebrates the season with five different witchy tales. Films appear in chronological order.

The Witches of Eastwick (1987)
About
: This is something of a dark comedy. We have Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfieffer as our titular witches. We also get Jack Nicholson in this film. It’s seasonal and fun, and it’s a classic!

Hocus Pocus (1993)
About:
Another tale about a trio of women—this time sisters. Bette Middler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Njamy take the lead roles as the Sandersons, who haunt a small town on Halloween. It’s spooky but fun for the family. It also inspired a sequel in 2022!

The Craft (1996)
About:
Maybe you prefer your witches in the teenage variety? This film turns 30 years old this year, which is somewhat hard to believe. If you’re burned out on Scream, the bonus here is you still can get your annual seasonal fix of Neve Campbell, who is part of the ensemble here.

Practical Magic (1998)
About
: We got a sequel to this sisterly tale starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman this year, but the original is the better film. It’s also something of a classic this time of year. It brings romance and a lot of margaritas to the witch party.

Suspiria (2003)
About
: This is a re-make of a classic 1970s tale. I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to go straight for the original. But this Luca Guadagnino film has become something of a cult classic over the last 20 years. It stars Dakota Fanning, among others, and certainly offers some unique visuals.
