Week 2 of the NFL wraps up tonight in Los Angeles. The Rams last played more than a week ago in Australia. Now, they host the New York Giants hoping to avoid an 0-2 start. I’ll preview the game below, but first let’s look at some takeaways from the rest of this week.
The scoring spree ended quickly
Week 1 of the NFL Season was the highest scoring in league history. There were points aplenty in nearly all the games. And while Thursday Night Football posted 72 points to keep the party going, for the most part things came back to Earth in Sunday. This is more of what we expected in the early going of the NFL Season with some tight games and very few explosive performances, especially when the weather is poor.
The Bears have a problem
The Bears were the story of Week 1, scoring 59 points. They were also the story of Week 2, scoring just three points at home while Caleb Williams left the game late. It appears in early reports that Williams avoided a season-ending injury. But it’s clear he’ll miss some time. That puts a damper on the Bears’ goal of breaking the single season scoring record.
Jayden Daniels might have a problem
Daniel battled injuries throughout his second season, including a gruesome elbow injury. In Week 2 in Dallas, the elbow injury recurred. That’s a grim sign for the young passer, who had a great rookie year and hasn’t been able to recapture that glory since. If this is another major elbow injury it could be another long season for the Commanders.
Now, on to Monday Night Football
New York Giants (1-0) at Los Angeles Rams (0-1)
It was a tale of two openers for these teams. The Rams opened in Australia with the weight of expectations and fell apart. They were blow out by the 49ers on the field and lost Myles Garrett to injury off the field. Meanwhile the Giants opened at home on Sunday night with little fanfare and expectation, and responded by crushing their division rivals the Cowboys. Now, these teams come together to close Week 2.
For the Giants, Jaxson Dart looked good in the opener. He has skills as a runner and a passer and should be a QB2 with upside. I like Cam Skattebo as an RB2 with upside, too. In the passing game for the Giants, Malik Nabers looked like he’s back and ready to go. He’s a WR2 with upside for me. I also think Malachi Fields is a sneaky deep league flex, while Isaiah Likely has some low-end TE1 upside.
For the Rams, can they get back on track? That’s certainly the hope back at home in Prime Time. Matthew Stafford is a QB1 for me, while Kyren Williams is a low-end RB1. In the passing game, I like Puka Nacua as a WR1 and Davante Adams as a WR2.
I think the Rams get back on track and get the win.
