The film was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who also worked together on Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans
The founder and CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, along with Shigeru Mayamoto, the producer for Nintendo, are both closely involved with the films production. The movie’s distribution will be handled by Universal Pictures. Universal Pictures, along with Nintendo, are financing the movie as well.
Reason 1: The nostalgia
Watching the new Super Mario Bros movie will bring back childhood memories of playing the Super Mario Bros games. The movie will be filled with references and characters from the game franchise such as Goombas, Donkey Kong, Toad, etc.
It will also have locations and things like the mushroom kingdom and a variety of Mario’s unique power ups. This, along with the inclusion of the games iconic original theme, will for sure be able to awaken some sort of nostalgia within you if you played the kid as a game and bring you right back to those memories.
Reason 2: The cast
Even if some reviewers complain about the plot of the new Super Mario Bros movie very few of them have any complaints about the cast. Almost all of the voice actors in the movie are well know, reputable actors with many years of experience under their belt. You will be sure to recognize some famous voices too while you watch the movie.
Reason 3: The special effects
The movie is entirely 3d CGI animation produced by Illumination. Illumination is a very large animation company with lots of years of experience. There work is of a very high quality. They are known for movies like Despicable Me, Minions, or Sing.
Reason 4: The soundtrack
The Super Mario Bros Movie had a nostalgic and impressive soundtrack. Featuring original music from Brian Tyler and even Jack Black himself. All of the music is twists on the original Super Mario Bros music giving the whole music a very Mario and nostalgic feel. The original iconic theme, which was composed by Koji Kondo, is also prevalent in the movie.
While the movie’s soundtrack will never be as memorable as the games original soundtrack since all the songs are just remixes of those original ones, it will still surely be a joy to listen to.

The Super Mario Bros movie is a comedy meant for all ages. While it most likely won’t be the funniest movie you’ve ever seen, the gaffs and wit of the movie will undoubtedly leave you chuckling on occasion as an adult. The Super Mario Bros games feature Mario and Luigi fighting many different villains as they traverse the world trying to save Princess Peach. Jack Black as Bowser is easily one of the largest selling points of this movie. Jack Black’s such genuine joy for his role and his long history and knowledge of the Super Mario Brothers universe as a player and a fan really show through in his role as Bowser. He perfects Bowser’s mannerisms and quirks perfectly. He’s a funny, very well acted villain.
Conclusion
The Super Mario Bros movie is definitely not movie of the year, but it’s far from the worst film to reach cinemas this year. If you are a long-time fan of the series or want a good movie to show your kids to keep them entertained for an hour and thirty-two minutes, then go right ahead and watch it.
