The 2022 NFL Season begins Thursday. As we’re wrapping up the preview series, it’s time to turn our attention to how these players might fare. Below are my Top 24 at each position—QB, RB, WR and TE—as we head into the season. For those that are drafting tonight, keep this in mind as we head into the season.
QBs:
1. Josh Allen
2. Justin Herbert
3. Lamar Jackson
4. Joe Burrow
5. Patrick Mahomes
6. Dak Prescott
7. Russell Wilson
8. Jalen Hurts
9. Matthew Stafford
10. Tom Brady
11. Derek Carr
12. Kirk Cousins
13. Kyler Murray
14. Aaron Rodgers
15. Matt Ryan
16. Tua Tagovailoa
17. Trey Lance
18. Jared Goff
19. Carson Wentz
20. Jameis Winston
21. Trevor Lawrence
22. Justin Fields
23. Mac Jones
24. Ryan Tannehill
About: There are some tough calls here, but I think people are sleeping on Carr (11), Cousins (12) and Goff (18) for their value. I’m also not all in on Trey Lance, and the retaining of Jimmy Garoppolo did little to change my mind.
RBs:
1. Jonathan Taylor
2. Najee Harris
3. Christian McCaffrey
4. Austin Ekeler
5. Joe Mixon
6. Aaron Jones
7. D’Andre Swift
8. Alvin Kamara
9. Javonte Williams
10. Derrick Henry
11. Nick Chubb
12. Dalvin Cook
13. Leonard Fournette
14. Ezekiel Elliott
15. Saquon Barkley
16. Elijah Mitchell
17. James Conner
18. David Montgomery
19. J.K. Dobbins
20. Breece Hall
21. Josh Jacobs
22. Antonio Gibson
23. A.J. Dillon
24. Cam Akers
About: Running back is always a bit of a challenge, but I’m all in on McCaffrey (3) to return to form, Williams (9) to step up and Swift (7) to explode. I also think Jones (6) could have a 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving.
WRs:
1. Cooper Kupp
2. Davante Adams
3. Justin Jefferson
4. Ja’Marr Chase
5. Stefon Diggs
6. Keenan Allen
7. CeeDee Lamb
8. Mike Evans
9. Deebo Samuel
10. Michael Pittman
11. A.J. Brown
12. Mike Williams
13. Allen Robinson
14. D.J. Moore
15. Jaylen Waddle
16. Courtland Sutton
17. Hunter Renfrow
18. Brandin Cooks
19. Chris Godwin
20. Tyreek Hill
21. Tee Higgins
22. Diontae Johnson
23. Marquise Brown
24. Darnell Mooney
About: There is a lot of talent at receiver. You can go through about 50 or so and make a case for Top 24. Am I confident I nailed the right group? No, you can’t be. But this is how I see it playing out. I’m lower on Hill (20) than others, and still think Waddle (15) is the Dolphins’ No. 1. I also believe in Sutton (16) and Renfrow (17) more than others. I have two Chargers in the Top 12, and I think that will hold true.
TEs:
1. Mark Andrews
2. Travis Kelce
3. Dalton Schultz
4. Kyle Pitts
5. George Kittle
6. Darren Waller
7. Pat Freiermuth
8. Zach Ertz
9. Dallas Goedert
10. T.J. Hockenson
11. Dawson Knox
12. Mike Gesicki
13. David Njoku
14. Gerald Everett
15. Hunter Henry
16. Cole Kmet
17. Albert Okwuegbunam
18. Austin Hooper
19. Robert Tonyan
20. Tyler Higbee
21. Irv Smith, Jr.
22. Hayden Hurst
23. Noah Fant
24. Evan Engram
About: Tight end feels deeper than in year’s past in terms of having more options with upside and possibility. But the gulf between elite and the rest is still big. After the Top 5, I’m not confident. I love Waller (6) and his talent, but injuries are a question. Meanwhile Freiermuth (7) could be poised to take a leap. I’ve also come back to earth on Hockenson (10). But I really love Schultz (3) and I think he could finish as THE TE1.
