Schmigadoon! made waves when it premiered last July on Apple TV+. The television series, created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, parodies Golden Age musicals from the 1940s and 1950s. Doctors Melissa and Josh find themselves trapped in a magical world and must find true love before they can leave.
Costume designer Tish Monaghan played a large role in creating this whimsical world and ensuring that theatre-savy audiences recognized which archetypes each character was meant to reflect. Monaghan has an impressive variety of projects on her resume from Twilight films to horror series.
I talked to Monaghan about where she drew inspiration from, designing for dancers, and what she’s working on next. I was so impressed by her obvious love for theatre and especially this beautiful show.
