“Elvis” Trailer from Baz Luhrmann

As distinct as his other entries, the familiar style of Baz Luhrmann drips from the first trailer for “Elvis,” where Austin Butler stars as the iconic Rock n’ Roll legend. I’m not sure how I feel about how the death of Martin Luther King Jr. being factored into a spotlight on Elvis Presley, but regardless he is a figure deserving of the almost operatic aesthetic Luhrmann brings as a director.

The performances seem spot-on, and the energy invoked through, yet again, modern musical cues may help retain a viewer’s perspective on the popularity and fandom Elvis garnered in his time:

Directed by Baz Luhrmann, written by Sam Bromell, Baz Luhrmann, and Craig Pearce, and produced by Gail Berman, Catherine Martin, Patrick McCormick, Andrew Mittman, Schuyler Weiss, and Baz Luhrmann, Warner Bros will release this in theaters June 24th, 2022.
