Marvel and Sony have released a full trailer featuring many promised antagonists and a few teases and references to a wider multiverse:
We get a better sense of Alfred Molina’s (Doctor Octavious or “Doc Ock”) role in the story with a Hannibal Lecter/Kahn vibe as Peter Parker and Doctor Strange conflict over the threats striking across their city. I’m happy to see a revamped look for Jamie Foxx’s Electro and that Alfred Molina is in a role that suggests he isn’t functioning at the mercy of his arms. Honestly, Marvel seems to sincerely be pitching this as a story for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, though we all know who may be just off screen for many of these shots…
Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon return with Benedict Cumberbatch, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe (giving an excellent, ominous voiceover) Jamie Foxx, and J.K. Simmons! Jon Watts continues to direct and he stakes feel high! The screenplay is written by the same team as ‘Far From Home’ (Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers) and Sony Pictures will release this in theaters nationwide on December 17th, 2021.
