Thoughts:

Actress might be one of the most up in the air races we have this season, as anyone could get it, and anyone could win. Right now i am going with Lady Gaga who is playing in House of Gucci. Behind her Jessica Chastain has been labeled as amazing in her portrayal as Tammy Faye, and Kristen Stewart has definitely looked the part when it comes to Princess Diana. Jennifer Hudson, who is an Oscar winner already, is unbelievable in Respect, but will the movies not so great reception (68% Tomato Score) bring her down? For my final slot I am going with Rachel Zegler, for now. Without having any acting experience, she booked the lead in West Side Story from Steven Spielberg, found a role in Shazam 2, and even signed on to play Snow-White in a live action adaptation of the first feature-film animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. There is definitely something about her that sticks out, and for now I am keeping her in.

Behind them Jodie Comer is already having an impressive year with the recent success of Free Guy, and her next role in The Last Duel could take her to the next level as an actress. Kirsten Dunst has been overlooked by the academy for years, but does that stop with The Power of the Dog? My only wonder is if she will be in the Lead or Supporting category for her performance. Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence are both undeniable whenever they are on screen, and they each have a chance to really showcase their talents this year in Nightmare Alley and Don’t Look Up respectively. Finally, Penelope Cruz is back in the Oscar race since 2010 with her most recent film, Parallel Mothers.

Next 5:

  1. Jodie Comer, THE LAST DUEL
  2. Kirsten Dunst, THE POWER OF THE DOG
  3. Cate Blanchett, NIGHTMARE ALLEY
  4. Jennifer Lawrence, DON’T LOOK UP
  5. Penelope Cruz, PARALLEL MOTHERS

  • Halle Berry, BRUISED
  • Emilia Jones, CODA
