This week’s big release is You, Me & Tuscany, a fun romantic comedy. The film features Halle Bailey in the lead role. In honor of its release, this week’s binge focuses on previous credits featuring Bailey. Projects appear in chronological order.
Last Holiday (2006)
About: Bailey’s first screen credit was in a supporting, and smaller role, in this Queen Latifah comedy. It’s hard to believe this film is 20 years old. Bailey has come a long way from here.
Grown-ish (2018-2022)
About: Yes, this is a TV show. But this was probably what helped put Bailey on the map. As Sky, a lead character, she appeared in 53 episodes of this spin-off comedy. It was a big part of her early career journey.
The Little Mermaid (2023)
About: The year 2023 was a big one for Bailey on screen. Her breakout role came when she was cast as the lead in the live action re-make of this classic Disney tale. She does a nice job in the lead, showing off her acting and singing chops.
The Line (2023)
About: This is the least remembered of her three films from 2023. She plays more of a central role in this drama led by Alex Wolff.
The Color Purple (2023)
About: This was the third of Bailey’s films from 2023. Here, she plays the younger version of one of the lead characters in this big screen adaptation of the musical version of The Color Purple. It was a solid performance in a film that ended up being a player for the Academy Awards.
