This week Project Hail Mary drops in theaters. It’s one of the most hotly anticipated films of 2026 so far, coming from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. While they’ve been a fixture on the small screen with series like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Last Man on Earth, they’ve also dipped their toes in the theatrical waters. This week’s binge looks at a few big films from the pair. The films appear in chronological order.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (2009)
About
: This is an adaptation of the classic children’s story. The pair not only wrote the script but made their feature film direction debut with this film. It spawned a sequel in 2013 for which they contributed the screen story.

21 Jump Street (2012)
About
: This was a big screen adaptation of the cult classic TV series. It put Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the lead roles. It’s a lot of fun, and saw Lord and Miller serve as directors. They also directed the sequel—22 Jump Street—released in 2014. That was the last feature film where they served as directors before Project Hail Mary.

The Lego Movie (2014)
About:
Continuing on in the animated realm, the pair served as writers and directors for this spin on the classic toy. Chris Pratt is in the lead voice role, but this was a loaded cast and a really fun and iconic film. It, too, spawned a sequel in 2019, for which they were writers but not directors.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
About
: This is another animated feature and might be one of their crowing achievements. It’s a unique take on the world of Spider-Man and the lore surrounding the hero. It’s a fun and really well-crafted film, for which they won an Academy Award. It’s spawned a successful franchise, with a third film due out in 2027.
