The latest Colleen Hoover adaptation, Reminders of Him, drops in theaters Friday. The film features Maika Monroe in the lead role. Though she’s been known for horror films, and it is Friday the 13th, this isn’t a scary film. Still, in honor of its release, this week’s binge looks at Monroe’s films. Films appear in chronological order.

It Follows (2014)
About
: Though not technically her first role, this is the one that probably put her on the map. It was a creepy and original horror film that really captured audiences. Monroe plays the lead and is quite good in the film.

Independence Day: Resurrection (2016)
About
: There was a time when they thought it was possible to make a sequel to this film without Will Smith. While it’s been largely lost to history, and for good reason, Monroe stars as Bill Pullman’s daughter in the film. It was a big summer blockbuster, which made it something of a step up for her at the time.

Watcher (2022)
About
: After a few years of uninspiring projects, Monroe went back to being the lead in a horror film. This one is more of a psychological thriller. It wasn’t as good as It Follows, but it’s a solid return to the genre.

Longlegs (2024)
About
: Here, Monroe plays an FBI Agent in the dark thriller from Osgood Perkins. The film was notable for its craft, its period setting, and for the villain played by Nicholas Cage. Monroe is great in the lead role as the anchor of a film that plays like a Silence of the Lambs homage.

100 Nights of Hero (2025)
About
: A different kind of part for Monroe here. It’s a loaded cast and a fun premise that plays out as something of a mash up between a medieval tale and a comic book. It wasn’t widely seen, but it’s worth checking out.
