The Worlds Collide Tour is a crossover concert event bringing together the cast of Descendants and Zombies, giving fans the chance to see performers from both franchises perform. Throughout the tour, the actors not only perform some of the most beloved songs from the films but also sing together, with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage added.
The concert was filmed beautifully. The cinematography does an excellent job of capturing the show’s energy. Rather than having lots of close-up shots, the film uses numerous zoomed-out angles that allow the audience to fully appreciate the choreography, staging, and elaborate costumes.
I really enjoyed this choice, as it lets viewers see the dancers and enjoy the full show rather than just individual faces. The lighting is a big part of the show, which videos online do not have the same impact as this movie. All the performers are extremely talented and all have beautiful voices. They were all incredibly talented dancers, but I felt that Mekonnen Knife stood out as the strongest in the cast. He did numerous flips and showed amazing flexibility—all while singing live, which made his performance even more impressive.
Malachi Barton also did a few flips. Kylie and Malia especially looked and sounded like princesses while performing “Space Between.” It was such a sweet and magical moment to watch. Dara Renee was great, giving a powerful villain performance with very strong vocals. I also loved seeing some surprise performances from a few different cast members from Zombies and even the upcoming Descendants that has not been released yet. I absolutely loved the badass boots worn by Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, and Meg Donnelly—they were such a cool touch to their outfits. Another thing I enjoyed was how for some songs the boys would wear super shiny, sparkly outfits. This was a cool touch, as it’s rare to see boys in sparkly outfits. The energy of the cast is infectious, and it’s clear how much effort and passion went into the performances.
I did think Freya Skye was the best at interacting with fans throughout the concert and it was so nice to see how much she enjoyed interacting with them. Another cool touch about this concert film is that we get to see lots of behind-the-scenes footage of the tour and more, including some auditions of the cast from the upcoming Descendants. If you look in the audience, you may be able to spot a few other Disney Channel lead actors from current tv programs.
Although I enjoyed the concert film, I also found the tour movie disappointing. Rather than feeling like a complete concert experience, it often comes across as a collection of highlights. Many songs are noticeably shortened, or others begin partway through instead of from the very beginning. A tour film should allow viewers to experience the performance as it happened, preserving the build-up, transitions, and full musical numbers. Instead, significant portions of the show appear to have been cut.
Another annoying thing about this is that lots of performers’ individual songs and full segments were completely cut. Given that fans attend these tours to see their favorite stars perform their own numbers as well as group songs, removing entire sections feels like a missed opportunity. I also wish the concert had featured more set changes. Solo artists such as Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo often have multiple elaborate sets, so you would expect a large-scale concert like this to include even more variety in its staging.
While The Worlds Collide Tour remains an enjoyable watch, thanks to the cast’s undeniable talent and the strong lighting and editing quality, it falls short of delivering the full concert experience it promises. I really hope that in the future an extended cut or complete edition will be released, allowing fans to enjoy the tour in its entirety, just as it was performed live. It’s still a fun watch but I just wish it were longer.
