Kissing Is the Easy Part follows a clever but not popular boy called Sean (Asher Angel), who only has two best friends, Denny and his own sister Lindsey. Flora (Paris Berelc) is the most popular and badass girl at school, whom everyone loves or is obsessed with. We find out that Flora has a habit of latching onto whatever her boyfriends are interested in, almost molding herself around them.

When Flora’s parents start worrying about her grades, they go to Sean and ask him to date their daughter to help her study. In return, they promise to help Sean get into his dream school. Sean reluctantly agrees, but realizes he is starting to fall in love for the first time.

Kissing Is The Easy Part is a fantastic film that made me smile throughout my viewing. The story is great and also has lots of funny moments throughout. I laughed quite a lot compared to many other films. I felt very immersed in the characters’ worlds.

The cast is fantastic in this film and all work well with each other. Angel and Berelc both have beautiful chemistry throughout the film, and you really feel like they are dating and in love when watching them together. They both have a great bond, bounce, and play off each other well.

Angel does an amazing job bringing comedy to his character while also portraying him as shy and nervous. I liked how Sean showed guilt at times, especially after he punched a certain character and clearly realised that he is changing and felt a bit bad and surprised about it. Many films don’t show that softer, more reflective side, so it made his performance feel more real and layered. What also drew me to his character was how comfortable he was with his family, especially his sister, Lindsey.

I loved how Denny, Sean, and Lindsey were all best friends. They all seemed so close and natural together, and it was really nice to see Lindsey included in conversations and spending so much time with Sean, as well as Denny. It’s rare for films to have siblings who are super close and don’t argue, so I think this also helped make you feel more connected to the characters.

Berelc was also fantastic and so badass throughout the film as Flora. She had such an effortless confidence about her and acted perfect in the role. She was great at portraying Flora even with subtle movements like cool eye rolls. As the film goes on, we start to see more to her character and not just the perfect girl we all thought she was, and that made for some vulnerable moments. It was nice to see a different side of her and understand her more. I liked how different Flora acted when she was just with her friends, or with Sean, as we would see more depth to her character.

Another thing that drew me to Flora is that, although she can be a little self-centred, she isn’t mean like a lot of other popular people are portrayed. This could be another reason why everyone is so obsessed with her and loves her—despite being popular, she’s kind. That small detail added more character development and made her more likeable. I also loved Flora’s outfits like summery skirts and shiny shoes. As for the comedy, one moment that stood out, which was clever and played a trick on the audience, happens during a heartfelt, emotional scene when, unexpectedly, a character is pushed into the pool.

I had anticipated that something like this might occur eventually, but not at that exact moment, which made the scene both surprising and funny. The movie also included a one-year time jump.  I appreciated that the characters remained friends and stayed in touch, at least occasionally, through social media rather than completely losing contact. I liked how this small connection allowed their relationships to feel more realistic.

Kissing Is the Easy Part was a fantastic film! The only aspect that could have been improved is how one character, despite never having dated anyone, seemed to know exactly what to do. I would have loved for the story to explore his inexperience more, rather than only focusing on it during the first part of the film.

Overall, Kissing Is the Easy Part is a wonderful romantic comedy, featuring an extremely talented cast whose chemistry really shines. The film delivers plenty of laughs, heartfelt moments, and emotional beats, balancing humour and romance in a way that keeps you engaged from start to finish.
