This week sees the new film 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple out for release. The film is a follow up to the story that began last summer, this time directed by Nia DaCosta. To celebrate the release, this week’s binge looks at the four other features from DaCosta. The films appear in chronological order.
Little Woods (2018)
About: This is a little family drama featuring Tessa Thompson and Lily James. It wasn’t a big release, but I liked the performances and I thought it was a solid debut feature.
Candyman (2021)
About: This is probably the piece of the resume that has fans most hyped for The Bone Temple. It’s a new take on the classic horror tale. It had some good visual moments and seemed to fit the series template well. It wasn’t a favorite for me, but I respected the craft and storytelling.
The Marvels (2023)
About: I feel like this is DaCosta’s most polarizing film, but it shouldn’t be. It was a very fun and engaging entry to the MCU. I loved the look of the film and the sense of humor. I maintain that this film was a blast, and my favorite film from DaCosta to date!
Hedda (2025)
About: A reunion with Thompson, offering a new take on this classic stage play. It takes some big swings with the story, but it features a good lead performance and some gorgeous visuals. It shows DaCosta has an eye for crafting a beautiful and engaging visual story.
