As 2025 draws to a close, it’s time to take stock of what we’ve seen on the big and small screen. Over the next few days, I’ll be giving some of my picks in a wide variety of categories. Up today, it’s the best TV series I saw in 2025.

Before I dive into the top 10, I thought I’d give a couple honorable mentions. These were episodes I liked that just didn’t quite make the cut.

  • The Beast in Me: A fantastic final few episodes.
  • Murder in a Small Town, Season 2: I really enjoy the stories and cast.
  • Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Season 3: Remains one of my favorite series.
  • Nobody Wants This, Season 2: A fun follow-up season.
  • Peacemaker, Season 2: Really stepped up for me in season two.
  • Platonic, Season 2: Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen are magic together.
  • The Studio, Season 1: I love what Rogen and his team did here.
  • Smoke: This was a wild and really engaging mini-series.
  • Bosch: Legacy, Season 3: I love Bosch and this was a great final season.
  • Ballard, Season 1: This one really stepped up at the end.

No. 10: Dept. Q, Season 1 (Netflix)
About
: This detective tale from Scott Frank was really engaging. Matthew Goode is awesome in the lead role and I enjoyed the exploration of these cases and characters. It felt like a unique take on a familiar genre.

No. 9: Pluribus, Season 1 (Apple TV)
About:
This is a big swing from Vince Gilligan. It’s a big, original idea that moves in some interesting directions. I loved the lead performance from Rhea Seehorn and I like the potential of this season. It was an amazing debut season.

No. 8: The Diplomat, Season 3 (Netflix)
About
: This show doesn’t get a lot of headlines, but it consistently delivers. It’s one of the most bingeable shows because once you start you can’t stop. I love Keri Russell in the lead role and I love the stories that it generates. This is a great political thriller.

No. 7: Andor, Season 2 (Disney+)
About:
I liked the first season of Andor but didn’t love it. The second season really upped the ante. The emotions and the storytelling were incredibly powerful. We knew where this would end, but it’s the journey that was so compelling.

No. 6: Adolescence (Netflix)
About
: This four-part limited series hits like a hammer. The story is incredibly engaging, but the way it’s told will stick with you. It’s powerful and emotional. This is well worth checking out.

No. 5: The Rehearsal, Season 2 (HBO)
About
: Nathan Fielder is a unique talent. This season tackled a difficult subject and did it in such an amazing and amazingly candid way. It was unlike anything I’d seen on television in the best way. This show is a treasure.

No. 4: Task, Season 1 (HBO)
About:
I have mixed feelings about whether this series should have another season. But the seven episodes were pitch-perfect with great work from Mark Ruffalo. I was incredibly moved and the craft here is incredible, too.

No. 3: Severance, Season 2 (Apple TV)
About
: This second season was worth the wait. The craft was incredible, especially in the episode “Woe’s Hollow.” But the story and the performances were incredibly moving, too. This is a great series and a great mystery.

No. 2: The Bear, Season 4 (Hulu)
About:
I was deeply moved by this latest season of The Bear. The characters and journeys were incredible. I have mixed feelings about it having another season, but that final hit like a ton-of-bricks. I think this show is now under-rated again!

No. 1: The Pitt, Season 1 (HBO Max)
About
: From the moment I watched the pilot, I knew we were in for something special. This show never disappointed. Noah Wyle is incredible. I just loved the stories and the production. I can’t wait for this to return. It was the best series I saw in 2025.
