On Friday the latest film from Luca Guadagnino, After the Hunt, debuts in theaters. It includes an all-star cast featuring Ayo Edebiri. Since busting out with The Bear, Edebiri has been everywhere. This week’s binge looks at five films featuring her talents. Films are in chronological order.
Theater Camp (2023)
About: This film was co-written and directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman, based on their experiences at theater camp. Edebiri plays a hilarious supporting role here as a teacher at camp well out of her depth. It was one of my favorite parts of the film.
Bottoms (2023)
About: Edebiri takes a leading role, starring opposite co-writer Rachel Sennott as a pair of high school lesbians looking for love and ready to make a move. It’s a hilarious and off-beat film that features some wildly creative sequences and a crazy ending!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
About: As part of a huge year, Edebiri voices April O’Neill in this re-boot of the turtles franchise. This animated film was a lot of fun and a big part of the summer. It spawned a sequel series and soon another film!
Inside Out 2 (2024)
About: This animated sequel from Pixar was one of the biggest films of the summer of 2024. Edebiri voices Envy, one of the newly added emotions. I liked this film a lot.
Opus (2024)
About: Technically 2024, but really got to wide audiences in 2025. This one features Edebiri as a young reporter invited to a special comeback event from a decorated musician (John Malkovich). Things go off the rails in a really creative way.
