This week the latest from Bill Condon—a re-make of the film Kiss of the Spider Woman—opens wide in theaters. In honor of its release, this week’s binge looks at five previous films directed by Condon. Films appear in chronological order.

Gods and Monsters (1998)
About:
This film dives into the life of director James Whale, played by Ian McKellen. It was an Academy Award nominated film that earned Condon an Oscar for the script.

Kinsey (2004)
About:
This film starred Liam Neeson as the famous sex researcher. It received some favorable reviews but certainly had an edgy approach to the man and the history. This is another high-profile biopic.

Dreamgirls (2006)
About
: Condon had another Academy Award contender with this one, this time a musical. Jennifer Hudson was a winner here, but this is one of Eddie Murphy’s best performances.

Mr. Holmes (2015)
About:
This reunited Condon with star McKellen, who plays an aging Sherlock Holmes who is struggling with dementia. I really liked this film. I think it’s an under-rated part of Condon’s filmography.

Beauty & the Beast (2017)
About
: This is the live action re-make of the Disney classic. It’s also a musical. The songs work and the production works beautifully. This is my favorite of all Disney’s live action re-makes.
