The long-awaited sequel to This Is Spinal Tap drops this weekend. Like the first, it comes from Director Rob Reiner, who has led some iconic films over the past few decades. Below are my favorite Reiner-directed films in ascending order.

No. 5: Stand By Me (1986)
About
: This is based on the Stephen King short story. It’s a coming-of-age tale that has a good cast and has resonated with viewers for years. It’s an under-rated Reiner film.

No. 4: The American President (1995)
About
: Before The West Wing, Aaron Sorkin had this film, which follows a bachelor President (Michael Douglas) as he embarks on a romance with a political strategist (Annette Benning). The performances are great and the story pops. A lot of that is a credit to Reiner’s direction.

No. 3: The Princess Bride (1987)
About:
Releasing this in back-to-back years with Stand By Me is a banger stretch. This is different kind of comedy from many of Reiner’s other films, but it might be more iconic in the culture. It’s a lot of fun.

No. 2: When Harry Met Sally (1989)
About
: People have never visited coffee shops the same way since. This romance between Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan is iconic. The comedy is beautiful and the story pops. This is a really fun film.

No. 1: A Few Good Men (1993)
About
: The pairing with Sorkin has been fruitful for Reiner. I really enjoy The American President, but A Few Good Men is on another level. It’s an excellent and iconic film, and it’s the best in Reiner’s solid and varied collection of directorial efforts.
