Last week we got the film Thunderbolts* released in theaters. Among the leaders of that group is Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier. This isn’t the first time he’s appeared in a Marvel project. If you can’t get enough of Bucky—or Sebastian Stan—this week’s Binge is for you. Below are other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects featuring Bucky. Films appear in chronological order.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
About:
The original Bucky Barnes project. He’s Steve Rogers’ friend, and a soldier in World War II. His apparent death, falling from a train, is the catalyst for one of the most emotional moments in the film.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
About:
Here, we meet Barnes as The Winter Soldier, a Hydra and Russian assassin. His reveal in this role is a surprise for Rogers and the audience. He’s quite good in the role, as this is one of the better MCU movies.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)
About:
Having recovered from the trance that entrapped him, Bucky is on the run. He gets help from Rogers and becomes the focus of the rift among the Avengers. The ending battle sequence with Captain America, The Winter Soldier, and Iron Man is intense and well shot. This really cements Bucky’s transition to MCU Hero.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
About:
After recovering from his Civil War wounds in Wakanda, Bucky is ready for the battle with Thanos. He does his part and then, like so many others, becomes one of those who fades from existence during Thanos’ snap.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)
About:
I almost didn’t include this because he mostly returns like everyone else who has ever appeared in an MCU film for the final battle. But Bucky sticks around at the end for a scene with Rogers and Sam. It’s a touching and emotional moment that is part of the powerful ending of that film, and a big phase of the MCU.

Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021)
About:
This mini-series puts the focus on Bucky and Sam in the wake of the events of Endgame. The world is changed, and Sam is wrestling with the charge to don the mantle as Captain America. Their friendship and partnership work well here. I liked this series more than most.

Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
About:
Is it really a Captain America movie if Bucky doesn’t appear? He makes just a token appearance here, but his cameo ends up being one of the best things about an under-whelming film.
