This week we get the release of The Accountant 2, a follow up on the Ben Affleck film directed by Gavin O’Connor. This week’s binge looks at five other films directed by O’Connor. The films appear in chronological order.

Miracle (2004)
About:
The 1980 U.S. Men’s Hockey Team created an iconic sports story. This is the film that was made to celebrate that achievement. I enjoyed Kurt Russell as the coach, and I thought O’Connor brought the story to life in a unique and engaging way.

Warrior (2008)
About:
This is another sports film, of sorts. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are good here in a mixed martial arts film. I like the action and fight sequences. This was engaging and satisfying, showing O’Connor’s skill as a director, too.

Jane’s Got a Gun (2015)
About
: This is a different kind of story. It features Edgerton again, this time opposite Natalie Portman in a different kind of Western. Ewan McGregor plays the main antagonist, rounding out a good cast. But this film didn’t really click for me.

The Accountant (2016)
About
: This film hits you subtly as it focuses on a math savant who poses as an accountant to cover his other activities. I enjoyed Affleck in this role opposite Anna Kendrick. It was an engaging film and I’m kind of excited it’s getting a sequel.

The Way Back (2020)
About
: This was O’Connor’s last feature before the upcoming Accountant sequel. It paired him again with Affleck, this time as a basketball coach who is trying to pull his life together. It’s a return to sports stories and O’Connor does well with the material. It’s also a great performance from Affleck.
