This week the new film Drop opens in theaters. It comes from director Christopher Landon, who has given us some fun and interesting films. This week’s binge looks at his previous work as a director. Films appear in chronological order.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)
About:
Landon started out as a writer, and one of the franchises he created was Paranormal Activity. By the time he took the director’s chair, the franchise was wearing thin. This is fine if you like these kind of movies, but it doesn’t feel like anything special.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)
About:
Here, we get a turn to horror comedy. This is a fun little film that finds Tye Sheridan in the lead as one of three Boy Scouts who spring into action when the Zombie Apocalypse kicks off. This showed Landon’s talent for a different kind of film.

Happy Death Day (2017)
About:
Have you ever thought Groundhog Day would be more fun if it was a slasher film? Clearly Landon had, and he delivered with this film. It’s a lot of fun and wildly creative. I had a blast. It led to a sequel, which is fun, too. This is probably my favorite of Landon’s films.

Freaky (2020)
About
: This is another mashup of genres. This is like if Freaky Friday was a slasher film. In this case a teen girl (Kathryn Newton) and a serial killer (Vince Vaughn) switch bodies. It’s bloody and it’s funny. The performances are solid and the idea hits well. Another well executed horror comedy.

We Have A Ghost (2023)
About
: This continued down the path to horror comedy, of sorts. This one is more comedy than scary, going down the ghost story route. Anthony Mackie and David Harbour are kind of fun here, too. This film has its moments though it doesn’t rise to the level of some of the other of Landon’s film.
