This week we get the new, live action Snow White film. It features Rachel Zegler in the lead role. We’re used to seeing her sing and act on screen, but in honor of this week’s release I turn my binge to five of her previous roles. Films appear in chronological order.

West Side Story (2021)
About
: Zegler had the lead in this re-make of West Side Story. It followed the same basic plot and featured the iconic numbers, but this one came from director Steven Spielberg. It brought her to the attention of audiences and helped make her a star.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
About:
As a follow up, we saw Zegler twice in 2023. The first as this sequel to the DCEU film Shazam! starring Zachary Levi. She played an integral role and was solid in the part, even if this sequel didn’t sit well with audiences.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023)
About:
Her second film in 2023 was also a piece of an existing franchise, this time a prequel. She had the co-lead and it required her, again, to sing on screen. She did fantastic in a film that was better than most—me included—expected it to be. This is one of her better films.

Y2K (2024)
About:
Again, last year, we saw Zegler twice on screen. Well, actually, we heard her twice, but saw her only in this comedy that imagined that the Y2K crisis—yes, that one—actually happened. It was wild and fun, dropping at the end of the year. But it wasn’t widely seen.

Spellbound (2024)
About
: This was her other 2024 release, an animated film that came out late in the year for Netflix after a series of delays. She voiced the lead, playing a princess and singing. It’s a nice performance in a film that had its moments and should leave her ready for Snow White!
