This week we FINALLY get Mickey 17, the latest from Boon Joon Ho. The film features Robert Pattinson in an interesting role. To celebrate the film’s release, I’m looking back at five other big roles for Pattinson in his career. The films appear in chronological order.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
About: This was my introduction to Pattinson. For a while, the Harry Potter franchise was the biggest thing in film. And Pattinson played a key role here as Cedric Diggory. He meets an unkind fate, but he plays well off Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the cast.
Twilight (2008)
About: No matter what else Pattinson does in his career; he’ll be remembered for Twilight. It’s a franchise that wasn’t great but, perhaps, gets more hate than it deserves. The films are uneven, but the first one is actually kind of interesting. He does a decent job in the role as Edward.
The Lighthouse (2019)
About: Pattinson has done a lot of independent and art house films over the last couple decades. The one I’ve chosen to highlight comes from Robert Eggers, and certainly makes an impression. He does a good job in a wild film, playing opposite Willem Dafoe in a weird but beautifully shot final project. This isn’t for everyone, but it shows Pattison’s fearlessness.
Tenet (2020)
About: If you can pair with Christopher Nolan, you do it. Here, Pattinson stars opposite John David Washington in a fun and twisty film that probably doesn’t get enough applause because it came out in the middle of a pandemic. Pattinson was quite good here.
The Batman (2022)
About: No one was more against Pattinson’s casting as the Dark Knight than me. I didn’t think he could do it. I was wrong. This is a great film that left the audience wanting more. We still do. Pattinson isn’t the best Batman, but he’s far from the worst.
