This year I’m sharing some of my favorite animated films of all time. Each Saturday I’ll be dropping another entry as I count down my favorites in the animated genre. Periodically throughout the year I’ll be sharing them in this Binge Watch space. Today, I offer my picks for No. 10 to No. 1, with entries appearing in ascending order. If you want to keep up weekly, follow along Saturdays on my blog.

No. 10: Marcel the Shell With Shoes On (2021)
About
: This one is a feature length film based on a series of web shorts. It’s got a great blend of humor and story, and I love Jenny Slate as the voice of Marcel. It was just a simple delight.

No. 9: Frozen (2013)
About:
This one has probably become over exposed over the past few years, especially its big, sweeping musical number. But I enjoyed the story, the characters, and the animation here. It remains a favorite animated feature.

No. 8: Wish (2023)
About:
This film celebrated the history of Disney animation. Some didn’t care for it, but I was moved by the characters and some of the great musical numbers. It was one of my favorite animated films from last year.

No. 7: Encanto (2021)
About
: I loved the animation and the story here. I remember seeing this in the theater and being deeply moved by the story and production. I feel like this one doesn’t get enough credit for how good it is.

No. 6: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
About
: This was my favorite animated film from last year, which was a strong year for animated films. This is a sequel to one of the best animated films of all time. It had a lot of weight of expectation and still delivers on its promise and potential. This is a fun ride.

No. 5: Toy Story 3 (2010)
About:
The best animated films speak to something about the human condition. This film does that, capturing the sometimes-emotional transformation from our childhood to becoming adults. It does so with a beautiful and moving story that always leaves me a little choked up.

No. 4: Coco (2017)
About:
The bright colors, the characters, the music—it all works for me here. This is my favorite Pixar film. It’s a brightly colored adventure that has a lot of emotion and heart. I love this story.

No. 3: Sing 2 (2021)
About:
Sometimes a sequel surprises you. That was certainly the case here. I liked the original film, but the depth of character and emotion just hits different with this sequel, which was my favorite animated film the year it was released.

No. 2: A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
About:
This has been a staple of the holidays for me since my childhood. I love the story and the characters here. It’s not really Christmas until I see Charlie Brown each year.

No. 1: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
About
: I’ve seen a lot of different takes on Spider-Man, but I’ve never seen one like this. It was an incredible film and an incredible theater experience. This is my favorite animated film of all time and I’m blown away by the story and craft here.
