This week the new feature Nightbitch opens in theaters. It features a strong lead performance from Amy Adams, who is in conversation this awards season. It wouldn’t be her first nomination, as she’s been nominated for an Oscar six previous times. This week’s binge looks at her previously nominated roles. Films appear in chronological order.

Junebug (2006)
About:
This was her first nomination, and an interesting role in an independent film. She starred opposite Ben McKenzie as a simple and sweet Southern girl. It was a charming performance.

Doubt (2009)
About:
Adams is part of a loaded ensemble including Meryl Streep, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Viola Davis, all of whom were recognized for their work in the film. I love this movie and I love Adams in this role. It might be my favorite of her films.

The Fighter (2011)
About:
Adams has a supporting role, again, here alongside an ensemble that features Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, among others. This was her first nomination in a film from David O. Russell, but it won’t be her last!

The Master (2013)
About:
This was her fourth nomination, again for a supporting role. This film again sees her opposite Seymour Hoffman, this time in a film from director Paul Thomas Anderson. This was a film with some great performances but ultimately the story doesn’t click as well for me.

American Hustle (2014)
About:
This was Adams’ fifth nomination, but her first nomination for a lead role. If she gets one for Nightbitch it will also be for a lead. Here, she’s paired with Russell again and gives a great performance in a film that had great champions and some that didn’t care for it. She’s part of a deep cast that included Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence.

Vice (2019)
About:
This was her sixth nomination, and fifth nomination for Supporting Actress. Again, she’s paired in a film with Bale, who starred as Dick Cheney. Here, Adams plays his wife, Lynne. It’s another good performance but this might be one of the weakest overall films on this list.
