With their new collaboration coming out as part of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe, this week’s binge looks at the history of Deadpool and Wolverine on film when they were part of the FOX Cinematic Universe. Each of the characters appeared in their own stand-alone films, and below I rank the five films that centered on either Deadpool or Wolverine. Films appear in ascending order!

No. 5: The Wolverine (2013)
About:
This was the second of the stand-alone Wolverine films, this time taking the action to Japan. It was an interesting concept but, for me, the execution just doesn’t work. I thought it was a little boring and missed the mark. It’s OK, James Mangold and Hugh Jackman made up for it later!

No. 4: X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
About:
The title of this seems to stem from a time when it seemed like there would be spin-off franchises for many of the X-Men. It didn’t happen. Following a disastrous third X-Men film, this wasn’t much better. But it does feature Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, albeit a completely different take on the character. I didn’t love this film, either, but I like it slightly more than his second solo outing.

No. 3: Deadpool 2 (2018)
About:
This second Deadpool outing is a lot of fun. In fact, so far, every movie that’s allowed Reynolds to sink into the character has been fun. I even enjoy the PG-13 version, Once Upon a Deadpool. Josh Brolin is great here as Cable, too. I’m excited to see where the new film builds from this great template.

No. 2: Deadpool (2016)
About:
I remember seeing Deadpool, it was unlike any superhero film I’d seen. Reynolds, as previously mentioned, is great in the role. This film was a lot of fun and is one of the best Marvel films FOX ever released.

No. 1: Logan (2017)
About:
Mangold and Jackman bookend this list. I didn’t like their first pairing, but their second collaboration is one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. It’s a darker, more grounded take. We get an older Wolverine and an older Professor X (Patrick Stewart). It’s a great take on the characters and the world. It would have made for a great final bow for Wolverine, so here’s to hoping their new film is great!
