The new film Arthur The King opens tomorrow. It features Mark Wahlberg and a four-legged friend competing in a big race. In honor of the new film feature a four-legged hero, I’m turning my binge toward five classic films featuring dogs. Films appear in chronological order.

Turner & Hooch (1989)
About
: Tom Hanks as an uptight detective paired with a slobbering dog. What could be better than that? This film is fun and a different kind of buddy comedy. It was adapted as a series a few years ago, but I prefer the film.

Eight Below (2006)
About
: This one sees Paul Walker with a team of sled dogs in a film directed by Frank Marshall. It’s not the happiest tale all the way through, in fact I remember seeing it with small children in the theater and seeing plenty of tears. But I love Walker and I love the dogs that are depicted in the film.

Marley & Me (2008)
About
: OK, this one also brings the tears. Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston welcome Marley into their household and she becomes a key member of the family. We see how her life plays out and the impact that a treasured pooch can have on a family. I also defy you to see this film and not end up in a puddle of tears.

A Dog’s Purpose (2017)
About
: Here we get things from, the perspective of Bailey (Josh Gad), who is the main dog in the film. The cast includes Dennis Quaid and it’s a heart-warming family tale. It’s one that’s worth checking out.

Dog (2022)
About
: Another buddy film, this one starring Channing Tatum as Army Ranger who is tasked with bringing a buddy’s service dog to his funeral. This one has plenty of fun and plenty of heart. It’s a ride worth taking!
