It’s the most Wonderful Time of the Year! We’re in the midst of the busy holiday season and now that we’re past Thanksgiving we’re getting our annual holiday specials. If you’re like me, you grew up with these as part of your annual tradition. We might have cut the cord or switched to streaming, but it doesn’t mean you’re ready to give up on these traditions. Fortunately, they’re now readily available to rent or purchase on streaming! Below are my five favorite Christmas specials. These appear in chronological order.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
About
: Rudolph is one of the oldest and remains a classic. It’s nearly 60 years old and is an annual staple. In fact, I’ve already watched it once this season! If you miss out in the annual airing on CBS, it’s not hard to find and it’s well worth diving into the classic story.

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
About:
This is my favorite of the specials and one of my favorite Christmas films. I watch it every year, usually saving it for Christmas Eve or Christmas day. The Peanuts specials are now part of Apple TV+ for those looking. This classic story is about the meaning of Christmas and it’s simply beautiful.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
About:
We’ve seen this story told a few times, including a live-action film and another animated version. But it’s this original that is a classic, especially at this time of year. We all feel like the Grinch at times, and we all lean into the season to restore our holiday spirit. This is another one I don’t like to miss.

Frosty the Snowman (1969)
About:
Is this one weird if you really think about it? Does it make you ask some serious questions as an adult. Sure, it does. But, ultimately, it’s a classic for a reason. So, fire up Frosty, shout Happy Birthday and celebrate the season!

Yogi’s First Christmas (1980)
About
: I’m a child of the 1980s, so things might seem different for me. I remember seeing Yogi’s Christmas special as a child. It was something I looked forward to seeing. It’s often on Max now this time of year and it’s still a lot of fun.
