The fascinating new film The Creator comes to theaters on Friday. It looks like a fascinating epic with a solid cast. If you’re looking for more, this week’s Binge Watch is for you. Below, I highlight another film from the filmography of the stars and director of The Creator.
Director Gareth Edwards: Godzilla (2014)
About: Yes, Edwards directed Rogue One. That’s been a big part of the marketing campaign. But he’s made other interesting genre films. This version of Godzilla, featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen kicked off the modern monster series and is an under-rated instalment.
John David Washington: Tenet (2020)
About: Washington has done many interesting films the past few years, but I enjoyed his leading role in Christopher Nolan’s twisty pandemic-era epic. This film doesn’t get the love of other Nolan films, but I appreciated Washington’s performance and the way this film came together.
Ken Watanabe: Inception (2010)
About: Speaking of Nolan films, here comes another. Watanabe, who looks to have an intriguing role based on the trailer, was one of the featured players in this Nolan film that I think is his best. Another twisty sci-fi film worth checking out.
Gemma Chan: The Eternals (2021)
About: Chan has been in a number of interesting projects, from Crazy Rich Asians to the TV series Humans to two different Marvel films. It’s the second of her Marvel films, where she plays a leading role, that is the focus of my pick here. This was a polarizing film, even among MCU fans. But I love the look of the project and the way the story plays out.
Screenwriter Chris Weitz: Rogue One (2016)
About: A lot has been made about Edwards directing The Creator, but his Rogue One co-hort, Weitz, is the co-writer of this film. Rogue One was one of my favorite films when it was released, and it is one of the best Star Wars films. It is definitely worth revisiting.
