Gal Gadot is back with Heart of Stone, an original Netflix film that drops Friday. For much of the last few years she’s been playing parts in two big franchises as Wonder Woman for D.C. and Gisele for the Fast and Furious films. For today’s Binge, I’m looking at five other roles she’s played over the years.
Date Night (2010)
About: This is mostly a glorified cameo role. This is a Steve Carell and Tina Fey vehicle that features Mark Wahlberg in a supporting role. Gadot plays Wahlberg’s girlfriend, one who doesn’t really speak English. It leads to a few funny moments but isn’t the best showcase of what Gadot can do.
Triple 9 (2016)
About: Again, this isn’t much of a showcase for Gadot. She plays the sister of Kate Winslet’s gangster character, and the love interest to one of the many male characters that dominate the plot. This is an action drama that didn’t work incredibly well for me despite a high-profile cast that includes Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Keeping Up With the Joneses (2016)
About: Here we get to see Gadot in a more comedic film. She plays one half of a secret spy couple, along with Jon Hamm, who pull a regular couple, played by Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher, into a wild adventure. This film had promise and it isn’t bad, but it isn’t incredible, either. It mostly works as a somewhat engaging comedy.
Red Notice (2021)
About: This was one of Netflix’s most high-profile action films from a couple years ago, pairing Gadot with Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson in a slick action drama. Parts of this work well, and the chemistry between the leads is interesting. There’s supposedly a sequel coming to this one as well. It’s OK but didn’t live up to all the hype.
Death on the Nile (2022)
About: Gadot plays a key role in this adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel. This film was oft-delayed due to the pandemic and finally released early last year. Gadot is solid in the role and I enjoyed this adaptation from Kenneth Branagh, which had a solid cast and an interesting premise. The film was better than some of the reviews it got.
