TNF Preview, Week 1

The 2022 NFL Season is here. In mere hours we’ll see the reining World Champion Los Angeles Rams play host to the Buffalo Bills, who many including me picked to get to the Super Bowl this season. In fact, this game could well be a Super Bowl preview. But it’s also like Christmas Day for NFL fans because it means the season is finally upon us.

It’s been a long winter, spring and summer as we awaited the return of the NFL. We’ve sat through combines, scouting sessions, the draft, mini camps, Training Camp and a slew of pre-season games. Now, the games that count are upon us. So, let’s dive in.

To start, this game heavily favors the Rams. The NFL switched to a Kickoff Game beginning in 2002 and moved to having the game hosted by the defending Super Bowl champion in 2004. Since that time, defending champs have only lost twice. The New York Giants fell to the Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens, who had to go on the road, were blown out by Peyton Manning in a record-setting game for the Denver Broncos.

Will Buffalo fare better? They might, but it’s hardly a guarantee. I picked the Bills to make it to the Super Bowl and I think they’ll have a heck of a season. But I still like the Rams on Thursday night. It also figures to be a fantasy-rich contest.

For the Bills, I like Josh Allen as a start at quarterback. He’s got QB1 potential and is an easy start even in a tough matchup. I also like Stefon Diggs as receiver. He’s a Top 5 option for me in 2022 and that starts tonight. Devin Singletary has looked good running in his past few games, I like him as a flex play. I also like tight end Dawson Knox as a low-end TE1 option. The biggest question for me is other receivers. Some feel Gabe Davis is in for a WR2 season, but I’m less certain. He’s an all right flex play in what should be a high-scoring game.

For the Rams, Matthew Stafford is also a start for me. He’s a QB1 for me this season. At receiver, I love Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson. Kupp was the top receiver in 2021 in a record-setting season. I think he picks up where he left off, especially at home with Tre’Davious White out for the Bills. Robinson was the Rams’ big free agent signing, and I think he has WR2 appeal. I’m staying away from Cam Akers. He could finish as an RB2 this season but this isn’t a great matchup. I’m not risking it. I’m also not bullish on tight end Tyler Higbee. You probably, hopefully, have some better options.

And now, for the rest of the Week 1 Picks!
