NeueHouse in New York screened A Sexplanation by director Alex Liu on Friday, June 3, 2022. Short and sweet, it has the conversation so many parents and teachers are afraid to have with children who become adults who feel unnecessary shame around the subject.
The documentary ultimately is about how sex is about identity and connection. Growing up gay, director Alex Liu felt he couldn’t ask his parents the questions regarding sex and porn that he so desperately wondered about. Animated segments elevate what would otherwise be normal shots. The documentary succeeds mainly because it is open, honest, and humorous.
A Sexplanation will be available on iTunes starting June 7, 2022.
