Reacher Season 1 Episode 1 Recap: Welcome to Margrave

Plot: Jack Reacher was arrested for murder and now the police need his help. Based on the books by Lee Child.
Starring Alan Ritchson, Malcolm Goodwin, Willa Fitzgerald,

I will be honest. I had ZERO clue that we were getting a Jack Reacher series. I am a massive fan of the two films starring Tom Cruise, so a series intrigued me. A few other things I dug was seeing Alan Ritchson cast as Jack Reach as I am a big fan of his work and I recently binged the Scream series and became a fan of Willa Fitzgerald. So let’s see what Amazon has in store for us with the pilot.

The show’s foundation starts similar to the original movie within the diner, Reacher being arrested and everyone uncertain of who he is. As they interrogate Reacher for these murders they claim he committed, he defends himself by saying he didn’t do them, but all the evidence suggests otherwise.

One of the things that most people were critical of the films was that Tom Cruise was too short for the part and honestly, anyone who had those critiques will love Alan Ritchson. Ritchson is a jacked 6’2 and fits the mold perfectly. While being a badass, Reacher also had a sense of humor that made his character endearing. Ritchson, with his comedy background, fits the role to a T.

Speaking of Ritchson being jacked, the fight sequences were my cup of tea. I loved watching him kick ass against everyone in his way. They established who Reacher was and what he could do early on, and I loved every minute of it. I can’t brag enough about Ritchson in this pilot. He was incredible.

While the story may be somewhat familiar to fans of the movie, the pilot establishes enough of a story with some great work from Ritchson that makes you want to move on to the next episode.

The Verdict: B+
