The Vampire Diaries was a smash hit during its original CW run from 2009 until 2017 and still retains a strong popularity amongst fans thanks to Netflix. Since all 8 seasons were made available on the site shortly after the series finale, the show has been visited (and revisited) by viewers all around the globe.
As 2021 comes to a close, so does Netflix’s license with a multitude of shows – including The Vampire Diaries. Parts of the world must prepare to binge the teen series for one last hurrah before its removed from the streaming service.
There’s still plenty of time for US fans to sink their teeth into Julie Plec’s supernatural drama as it is currently scheduled to leave on March 8th, 2022. Other regions such as Australia and Germany will be losing the series much sooner on January 1st 2022.
The UK platform has yet to announce any decision on whether The Vampire Diaries will be joining its international counterparts; back in November 2020, the show did depart from UK Netflix only for it to be relicensed and restored the following February. Whenever the license runs out, however, is still up in the air.
