‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ E1 – Review

I would like that thank Disney for allowing me to watch and review this series. Spoiler-free review is now live on The Film Optix Podcast

Directed By: Kari Skogland

Head Writer: Malcolm Spellman

Stars: Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie & Desmond Chiam

Synopsis: Following the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities — and their patience.

It seems like only yesterday we were anticipating and theorizing the events that materialized in Wandavision. Nevertheless, it seems a new show has been released from the Marvel Studios vault, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. The latest Disney plus mini-series at long last is here and it seems that Marvel has dazzled fans yet again.

The events of this series take place 6 months after the events of Avengers Endgame while Wandavision fell out a few weeks after the mad titan was defeated. I appreciate how marvel is using the events of their latest blockbuster as a timestamp for events moving forward. This series starts on a great foot with its opening action scene with Sam Wilson which I thought was a nice way to set the tone for the rest of the show.

Episode one gives us a healthier look at Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes’s life after Steve Rodgers passes his mantle to its next suitor. We a closer insight on how Sam and Bucky’ are handling life after “The Blip” brought everyone back. We see the struggles, leadership, and trials they are faced with from their family members and even though the first episode might feel a bit steady, they are planting the seeds for what’s to come.

This show looks like it’s going to give us a deeper dive into Sam and Bucky. For the longest time, they were just known as Steve Rodger’s friends and this show seems that it will expand on who they are as people and heroes. My two concerns are that this is only a 6 part mini-series which means less time to get to the meat and potatoes of the show’s core. The other concern I have is that this will feel like a Captain America Winter Solider 2.0 series. I enjoyed the experimentation they took with Wandavision and I hope that sort of style rolls over to this series as well.

Final Thoughts: The series this the ground running while trying to find a healthy balance between the action and what it means to learn from your past and become a leader. The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is set to debut on March 19th via Disney Plus.
