Over the years, Nicole Kidman has blessed us with countless outstanding performances accompanied by something nearly impossible to miss. No, I do not mean her accent or perfect skin, I do mean her true partner in crime, a wig. Not just any wigs have assisted Kidman on screen, we’ve had some truly inspired wig choices on our fearless Australian goddess. Why does she part after part wear these wigs? No one seems to know, but we all do seem to obsess over it. In honor of her inspired wig choices, I decided to rank my favorite Kidman wigs.
How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2017)
The worst wig on the list in my opinion, but deserves a mention on the list for its commitment to punk aesthetic. Kidman plays a rockstar alien in John Cameron Mitchell’s film.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Kidman’s rouge wig worn for her role as Satine in Baz Luhrman’s 2001 musical, romantic epic. This beautiful wig serves up as much drama as Kidman’s character does herself.
In Jay Roach’s Fox News drama, Kidman played real-life blonde Gretchen Carlson with quite the bleach blonde, bob wig. The wig became the real star of the not completely well-received film.
In Karyn Kusama’s crime thriller Destroyer, Kidman wears a dark, mop inspired wig for her turn as an LAPD detective. The wig is as gritty as the plot but helps establish the time period with flashbacks to a much more pristine wig.
The Paperboy (2012)
In Lee Daniels’ 2012 drama, Kidman wears a glorious bleach blonde, teased wig accompanied by an impressive spray tan. While she stars opposite both Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey, the biggest star on screen is Kidman’s wig.
Big Little Lies (2017-2019)
Kidman’s turn on TV brought her wigs to a new media type! In both seasons of the Emmy winning drama, Kidman wears a wig that is very similar to her natural hair, but the wig brings an extra amount of drama to the HBO series.
Boy Erased (2018)
The second entry for a bad bob and bleach job on this list. This wig paired with Kidman’s southern accent set this movie on a completely different level and brought her performance as a preacher’s wife to new heights.
My personal favorite of all of Kidman’s wigs is in Birth. The shortest we’ve seen Kidman go with her wig selection. While the film didn’t premiere to the best response, this wig deserves more praise.
