I would like to thank Hulu for allowing me to watch and review this series. This review will cover episodes 1-5 of the series. This is a spoiler-free review as I plan to give my first impressions of the show

Synopsis: As the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer, Helstrom follows Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana Helstrom (Sydney Lemmon), and their complicated dynamic, as they track down the worst of humanity — each with their own attitude and skills.

Let me start by saying that I put off watching these episodes for as long as I could. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to invest in yet another show. A few weeks ago I was bouncing between The Boys Season 2, Raised By Wolves & Lovecraft Country. So you could imagine the anxiety I was up against by adding a 4th show to my heavy rotation. But now that 2 out of the 3 shows I have been watching have come to an end I can finally give my first impressions about Hulu’s latest original series Helstrom.

I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this show but after finishing this episode I was very impressed & immediately hooked. So far Hulu has been leading this spooky season by pumping our horror content for consumers. Now I’m not a horror fan at all. There is some horror content I enjoy but overall it’s not my kind of genre. However, I have been looking for that perfect balance of suspense and I must say that Helstrom has delivered on all fronts.

The show does an amazing job of introducing you to the world and setting the tone for what’s to come. I recommend watching Helstrom in a dimly lit room to fit the atmosphere of the darkened one of the show. Helstrom does a great job of keeping you guessing and lays the groundwork for the show moving forward. This series has a demonic undertone which normally I would find off-putting but it’s one of the best parts of the episodes I have seen so far. The characters we are introduced to are interesting and keep you glued to your seats from the very beginning.

I wish I could say that there’s a weak link in the casting of this show but in all honesty, the acting is phenomenal. Daimon Helstrom who is portrayed by Tom Austen is easily one of my favorite characters. As well as Sydney Lemmon (Ana Helstrom), Elizabeth Marvel (Victoria Helstrom), & June Carryl (Dr. Louise Hastings). There’s never a dull moment on screen and the chemistry that these actors have speaks for itself.

And of course, the story is captivating as well. I’m 5 episodes in and I couldn’t tell you what’s going to happen next. Helstrom is easily one of the best shows in 2020. And I hope this astounding show makes it on your watch list for this Halloween season.

My rating of Helstrom EP 1-5

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
