Every Year After follows a girl called Percy (Sadie  Soverall) who returns to her childhood home where she would go for the summer to attend her childhood best friend who is also also her ex boyfriend and his brothers mums funeral. We soon realise the past is much more complicated and what follows are secrets and much more!

Every Year After was a great TV programme that kept me hooked from the very first episode. I really enjoyed the story. The first episode took a bit of time to get into, as at first you are not sure what’s happening, and I was getting confused, but then flashbacks started, and you start to realise it’s all going to be explained. The flashbacks start from when Percy was a young kid, I believe 13, when she first meets Sam and Charlie (Matt Cornett) (Michael Bradway), where Percy becomes best friends with Sam and becomes very close with his older brother, Charlie. I loved seeing the relationship grow.

The other thing that helped me draw into the character of Percy was her love for movies. I also liked how Percy could be slightly badass at times. The show gives summer vibes from the warm colours, the outfits, and shoes, ice cream and beach or lake setting. I especially loved Percy’s and Delilah’s outfits and shoes, and the boys’ jackets. I also thought the transitions throughout the show were very creative, especially the flashbacks. I found myself rooting for Charlie and Percy, but there were quite a few times Charlie made me very annoyed and disappointed with how he treated Percy, and I couldn’t help but feel bad and sorry for her. The show also explores the themes of growing up, as when all the characters reunite, they are all young adults, not teens. The show deals with quite a lot of mature themes about life in general. Every Year After also had a great soundtrack of songs. The romance scenes are also well done and don’t rush into anything.  All the cast are great but Sadie and Matt have a beautiful chemistry together,  where you as the viewer root for everything to be ok and them to get back together!

A few episodes into the show, I had already guessed what the big secret was. While the reveal confirmed some of my suspicions, I was slightly relieved to discover it wasn’t quite as bad as I had initially imagined, even though the actions themselves were the same. I also found Percy’s friend Chantal slightly mean and didn’t think she was as likeable as the other characters, so I never really warmed to her.

Overall Every Year After is a great TV show that I really enjoyed, which is very easily bingeable and I was hooked after the first episode, though the start takes a long time to get into. I highly recommend watching!
