As 2025 draws to a close, it’s time to take stock of what we’ve seen on the big and small screen. Over the next few days, I’ll be giving some of my picks in a wide variety of categories. Up today, it’s the best animated films I saw in 2025.

Before I dive into the top five, I thought I’d give a couple honorable mentions. These were films I liked that just didn’t quite make the cut.

  • In Your Dreams: This was a fun little Netflix film. It’s good for the family.
  • Predator: Killer of Killers: An ambitious spin on the Predator world that had some good moments.
  • Scarlet/Arco: We’re getting a lot of anime-style films. They don’t all hit for me, but these two were interesting visually and in terms of story.

No. 5: Little Ameile or the Character of Rain
About
: This was a little film released in limited this Fall. It’s an interesting story adapted from a book. I liked the style, but I was really drawn to the story and the rich emotions here.

No. 4: David
About
: This one just released, coming from Angel Studios and telling the story of David from the Bible. I liked the animation and songs. This was a fun one.

No. 3: KPop Demon Hunters
About
: This one was a sensation in 2025. I saw it when it first released in May on Netflix, and I enjoyed it. I have been interested to see how big it’s become. The songs are great, and it has a fun, colorful story.

No. 2: Zootopia 2
About
: This follow up comes eight years later. But I still enjoy Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman in the lead roles. This is another fun story with a great voice cast and some warm, emotional moments. It’s been a big hit this Fall.

No. 1: Elio
About
: It’s been an interesting year for animated films. There have been several I’ve liked, but none I’ve truly loved. While Elio didn’t land with audiences as much as it did with me, and isn’t likely a top contender, this is the animated film I enjoyed the most this year. It’s got a delightful story and a solid look.
