Week 8 of the NFL Season comes to a close tonight in Kansas City. The beat up Washington Commanders are in town trying to push the Chiefs. I’ll have a full preview of the game below. But first, let’s look at some take aways from Week 8.

The Jets, Dolphins, and Ravens are alive

The winless Jets and the hapless Dolphins and Ravens all got big wins on Sunday. The Jets managed to outscore the Bengals in Cincinnati. The Dolphins went to Atlanta and blew out the Falcons in Kirk Cousins’ first start of the season. And the Ravens stood tall at home against the streaking Chicago Bears despite Lamar Jackson missing another game. It was a big day for underdogs this week.

The Broncos and Colts are cruising

The Colts beat the Tennessee Titans by more than 20 at home. They’re now 7-1, holding the best record in the National Football League. The Broncos, meanwhile, scored 44 points at home against the Cowboys, moving to 6-2 with their fifth straight win. Both teams, who played an epic clash in Week 2, look like they might be among the best in the league so far.

The Bills got back on track

The Bills played some ugly games prior to their bye week. The team came out of the bye 4-2, having lost two straight games. They wouldn’t lose a third. Josh Allen and James Cook dominated as the Bills scored 40 points on the road in Carolina. The Bills are back on track.

And now, on to Monday night’s game.

Washington Commanders (3-4) at Kansas City Chiefs (4-3)

This is a tale of two teams who were contenders in 2024 that are going in opposite directions. The Chiefs started out 0-2 but have gotten hot of late. The team is now 4-3 and keeping pace in a loaded AFC West. The Commanders started strong, but injuries and inefficiency have derailed the team.

For the Commanders, Jayden Daniels is out again. Marcus Mariota is a low-end QB2. I like Jacory Croskey-Merritt as an RB2. In the passing game, it looks like Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel will be back. I like both as WR2s this week. Zach Ertz is a TE2 with some upside.

For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes is a QB1. He’s been tearing it up, and I suspect that will continue. The best option in the backfield is Isaih Pacheco, who is an RB3 for me. Brashard Smith is a deep league flex dart throw. In the passing game, I like Rashee Rice as a WR2. I also like Travis Kelce as a low-end TE1. It’s hard to tell which other Chiefs’ receiver will be a good play, but Xavier Worthy is a WR3 with upside and Hollywood Brown is a flex option for me.

I have the Chiefs tonight.
