The NFL’s sixth week draws to a close tonight. And, for the third time this season, we have a Monday night doubleheader. This is another double dip that features an overlap, but also features two intriguing matchups. I have a full preview below, but first a few takeaways from the rest of the week.
Winless in London
The Jets are the only team in the NFL without a win. Heading into Week 6, the team was also the only ones without a turnover. They solved that riddle early in London, grabbing a fumble from Troy Franklin on the opening drive. The Jets had a horrible game on offense, and yet they nearly won. But, instead, they fell 13-11 and dropped to 0-6 on the season. That leaves them in a tough spot as they seek the first win of the Aaron Glenn era.
Mike McDaniel on the hot seat
The Miami Dolphins aren’t winless, thanks to their Monday night victory over the Jets in Week 4. But it hasn’t looked good. The Dolphins got out to a lead in Week 5 before losing to the Carolina Panthers. Facing a must win in Week 6, the Dolphins had a see-saw battle, but turnovers and inefficiency killed their chances against the Chargers. The team is now a woeful 1-5 and McDaniel’s time in Miami could be coming to a close.
The Ravens are in the hole
Another team feeling the 1-5 blues is the Baltimore Ravens. The team was without Lamar Jackson, again, and saw Cooper Rush struggle, again. The Ravens even inserted Tyler Huntley for a bit but it didn’t help. The Ravens scored just three points in the game and lost by 14. They head into the bye week in a huge hole. It’s a surprising start for a team that was a trendy AFC contender heading into the season.
And now, on to Monday night.
Buffalo Bills (4-1) at Atlanta Falcons (2-2)
This is the early game Monday, getting the 7:15 p.m. start. It features two teams hungry for a win. The Bills lost their first game on Sunday night in Week 5 to the Patriots. The Falcons, meanwhile, want to build momentum after nabbing a Week 4 win heading into the bye. Who will be able to come out on top?
For the Bills, Josh Allen is a QB1, and James Cook is an RB1. I also like Dalton Kincaid at tight end. He’s TE2 on the season coming into Week 6 and he’s been heavily targeted. This could be a high-scoring game, so I like Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman as flex options.
For the Falcons, Michael Penix, Jr., has been better at home than on the road. He’s a QB2 option. In the backfield, I like Bijan Robinson. He’s an RB1. In the passing game, Drake London is the top receiver and he’s been eating. He’s a WR2 with upside. I also like tight end Kyle Pitts, especially with Darnell Mooney out. He’s a low-end TE1 for me.
I’m taking the Bills in this one.
Chicago Bears (2-2) at Washington Commanders (3-2)
This is the prime matchup on Monday, which will also air on ABC. It’s a re-match of one of the most exciting games from 2024. We get to see the top two draft picks from 2024 square off again. The Bears are coming off a bye, but the Commanders are coming off a big win over the Chargers. So, who prevails Monday?
For the Bears, Caleb Williams is banged up. He’s also been a little inconsistent. He’s a QB2 for me. D’Andre Swift is the back you want, and he’s an RB2 for me. In the passing game, Rome Odunze has been great. He’s a WR1 for me. D.J. Moore is a flex option, but I’m not trusting the rest of the receiving options.
For the Commanders, Jayden Daniels is a QB1. I like him to have another strong game. In the run game, I like Bill Croskey-Merritt to lead the attack. He’s an RB2 for me. In the passing game, Deebo Samuel has been their rock. I like him as a WR2. Zach Ertz is a TE2 with upside.
I’m taking the Commanders Monday night.
